Meru, Kenya
Resided in:
Buford, Georgia
Purshottam “Babu” Nagji Patel passed away on January 2, 2023, at age 73.
Babu was born on July 2,1949 and was the eldest son of Nagjibhai Patel and Sushilaben Patel of Meru, Kenya. The family moved to Nairobi and Babu established himself as a larger than life character well known and liked in the community. Always up for an adventure, it was at this time that he also earned the affectionate lifelong nick name of “Simba” (Lion heart).
He married Sushila “Shila” Ruparelia in 1969 and they went on to have four children and adopt two of his brother’s children. The family enjoyed life, managing their own grocery and work with raising the family. Whilst his parents and most of his siblings emigrated to the UK, Babu and Shila moved their family to the United States in 1989. The early years were spent moving between states as Babu pursued various business ventures before the family settled in Stone Mountain.
Babu worked over 20 years as a site engineer at Flexible Metal Inc, in Tucker before retiring in 2017. Still known for his love of life and a good time, in his later years spending time with his seven grandchildren gave him great pleasure and he particularly enjoyed taking them to Stone Mountain Park to feed the ducks.
Shila and the family have a lifetime of good memories of Babu and hope to return his ashes to his beloved Kenya.
He will be dearly missed, and Simba will live on in our hearts.
