Agustin "Augie" Jesus Rodriguez

August 22, 1957 ~ March 31, 2023
Born in:
Brooklyn, NY
Resided in:
Lilburn, GA
Agustin “Augie” Jesus Rodriguez passed at his home in Lilburn, Georgia, on March 31, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Cristina Foley, and two cousins, Yanza Wilkey and Roger Rodriguez. Augie was a scholar and an artist. His dreams of attaining a PhD in history were thwarted when his major professor retired before he could complete his dissertation. Not one to give up on anything he turned his focus to another passion, art, quickly becoming a highly respected sculptor and painter of miniatures. He ran his own business sculpting historical and Special Ops figures for over 20 years before transitioning into a finance job at Bank of America. In 2021 he retired and got the opportunity to yet again return to the bench, this time for fun, sculpting and painting any and everything from historical figures to dinosaurs to ordinance. Hockey and IMSA racing were his other passions. For many years, he himself was a hocky goalie, the only position to play, as he would say, because you were on the ice for 60 minutes and got to wear all the pads. A proficient polyglot, he spoke English, Spanish, Italian, French, and even a little Japanese. Though he lived most of his life in the South, he was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Cuban immigrant parents and was very proud of both his city and his heritage. Trying to describe Augie in a few words is impossible. He was a loving husband, had a razor-sharp wit, was quick to anger but even quicker to forgive. The world is so much smaller now that he has left it.

Cris,
Augie was my best friend. He was like you said, just the most talented and giving person.
I am profoundly saddened by his passing. Life won’t be the same without him, but through my memories he will remain with me. Carmen, Lloyd and I give you all our love.
Lloyd
Thank you so much, Lloyd. Augie always referred to you as brother and he meant it. A huge part of him resides in your display cases showing his life’s work. He couldn’t have a more loving and kind caretaker of his memory. Love to you, Carmen, and Lloyd Jr.
Thank you so much, Joel. Augie had an immediate bond with you because you liked hockey. To him that was a sign of good character. He truly loved talking with you and sharing stories. In his book you were brother in arms.
Thank you so much, Mary K. Augie thought the world of you and loved working with you. You made him smile when things got tough.
Cris- We’re praying for you! If I knew nothing at all, I knew how much Augie loved you! You were his Gem! XOXOXO
Thank you so much, Sheneka. Augie adored you, his partner in crime. He kept every little thing you brought him from Cuba, even the little plastic bag the raw sugar came in. Just like you have me, you touched his heart.
Dear Cris,
we are very saddened by Augie’s passing. He was intelligent, kind and always found a way to make us laugh. May the Most High grant you patience in this difficult time.
Thank you so much, Mersiha and Hido. I am comforted by the number of people showing their love for him. Thank you.
Please accept my sincerest condolences for the passing of your husband, Augie. I didn’t have the pleasure of meeting him, but after reading some to the expressions of love in this Guestbook, he was loved. May God give you strength and comfort during this difficult time.
Thank you so much, Romeo. I know you and he would have gotten along so well. He could tell a story like no one else and was eager to listen to other’s stories. He made you smile no matter how you were feeling before.
Thank you so much, Tim. Augie loved stopping by and chatting with you. He really could talk about anything. Your thoughts and prayers are very appreciated.
I am so sorry to hear of Augie’s passing. I enjoyed the short time I worked directly with him and all the other years indirectly! His stories, adventures and life-sayings were truly amazing and I loved swapping stories with him. He will be missed by so many. Augie was truly one-of-a-kind. Prayers for you.
Thank you so much, Cathleen. Augie always enjoyed working with you. You have the unique ability to make people feel comfortable, and he admired that.
As you well know after working with Augie we became close friends and then he became a brother to me. I loved him so and he will always be in my heart. Jennifer and I are here for you.
Love, Jeff
Jefe, you were his brother. He loved you so very much. I am so glad he got to have lunch with you and your granddaughter recently. He talked about that for weeks. I think that was the happiest he had been in a long time, that day.
My deepest condolences to you and the family. I’m so so sad to hear of Augie’s passing. I will forever remember his words of kindness to me my first week I began at BOA and he was always a great guy to me throughout my knowing him. I will always be grateful for his honesty and kindness. I will have to name a cupcake in his honor. May God strengthen and keep you and my continued prayers for you all.
Thank you, Tony. You know he would honored to have your Orange cupcake named after him. He raved about those cupcakes for months!
Cris, I am very sorry to hear this news. I am praying for you to find healing through the lord’s love. Please take comfort in knowing that he is always by your side.
Mimi, thank you so much. His fellow island companion. He loved talking with you. And when you brought him goat and cremas….that was it. You were his friend forever.
You have my deepest condolences. The special people in our lives are never “ever” really gone….they have a cherished place in our hearts where they will always be remembered for the love they shared and the happiness they brought. I pray that all the memories of your time together bring you comfort always.
Thank you, Vivian. You are so right, they are never really gone. He will be in my heart forever.
Cris – My deepest condolences. Augie was One of a Kind. He beat to his own drum but was a JOY to know. We had many wonderful conversations outside. He was a Plethra of knowledge. He always had a Smile and a Good morning for me when walking by. I am so very sorry for your loss. May you find Peace and Comfort in all your many fabulous years of memories. Continued prayers for you in the weeks to come.
Thank you, Penny. You are so right. He was a walking encyclopedia with a sense of humor that left you smiling. He had more knowledge in his little finger than I do in my entire brain. He loved talking with people outside where he could truly be himself (believe it or not he was actually restrained inside). He touched so many lives.
Cris, I’m deeply saddened to hear of Augie’s passing, he’s a most excellent person and a good friend. I very much enjoyed our daily chit chats, and always walked away feeling that my funny bone had been tickled or my brain had been challenged. Vaya con dios mi compadre.
Ben, you were his compadre par excellence. He loved talking with you and was so delighted you were learning Spanish. You were one of the few people who could surprise him. He considered you a brother.
Thank you so much, Carrie. You have had your share of difficult burdens to bear, so I know you understand. I love you very much.
Cris- I know you are hurting and I am truly sorry for your loss. Please hold on to those precious memories and let us know if there is anything you need. May God continue to keep you in His healing arms!
Thank you so much, Nadine. Hearing how he touched so many people with his huge personality brings me much joy. He was truly one of a kind
Thank you souch, Ruth. Augie always asked after you once he retired. He enjoyed talking and especially venting with you. You made him smile.
Thank you so much, Amy. You are family. My sister. Even though we are far apart, I feel your loving presence. Thank you, kind soul.
Cris, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I know that Augie cherished you and that the two of you shared so much love. Although Augie could appear rough on the outside, it was just because he was so passionate about doing the right thing. On the inside he was just a big softie and would do anything to help anyone. My thoughts, prayers and love are with you and please know that I consider you a friend so please let me know if you ever need anything. I’m sorry that I won’t be able to attend the service this weekend due to a minor surgery scheduled tomorrow but I will be thinking about you.
Thank you so much, Shelley. Your description of Augie is so accurate. Anyone that knew him, saw how much he cared. When he did something, he did it 1000%. I hope all goes well for you and that you recover quickly. I know you will be there in spirit.
Cris, As you know I first met Augie when he came to work at Ansley Mall Bookstore in the late 70s. Wow! His presence, both intellectually AND physically, kept the place rocking! We became instant, fast friends. He has been a part of mine and Ron’s lives ever since. He was Uncle Augie to our two kids, he and I shared a love of art and history, and he and Ron developed this ridiculous hockey-related friendship going to Gladiators games. They even let me go with them from time to time! Sunday afternoons would find them bringing hockey and the world into proper order.
Now when I make his renown pork tenderloin he will be in the kitchen.
Cris, may The Lord bring you peace in His time, and prayers for the repose of Agustin’s soul.
Thank you so much, Marie. His stories about Ansley always had me rolling. Especially the one about the lady looking for the “green” book. No title, no author, all she knew was it was green. Your family was his family. Ron was his brother and your kids his kids. He was as invested in them as any parent, thrilled at how well they have done for themselves. Thank you for your prayers and support, and especially for taking him into your family so fully.
Cris, I am so saddened to hear of the loss of Augie. He was truly a one of a kind, such a deep special soul. He could come across as gruff at times, but that couldn’t have been further from the truth. Always so interesting to chat with and we would complain to each other about this dang GA summer humidity and heat. He will be missed. Thoughts and prayers for you.
Thank you, Jeana. Above all he was Latin, passionate in every aspect. If he cared you knew it. He was nothing but genuine. And you are so right, if the temps were 32° year round he would have been happy. He touched so many lives.
Hey Cris it is Cindy, so sorry Auggie is gone. He was always a laugh in our day. Just to funny to brighten up some ones day when things are going down. We are all happy he could be there for us and you also.
Thank you, Cindy. He definitely kept you in stitches with his wry sense of humor. He always said what the rest of us were only thinking.
We are all here for you and his family. Continued prayers for you all.
Thank you, Tony. I will always be thankful to you for the lovely orange cupcakes you made for Augie. He was so delighted to get them and raved about them for months afterwards. Your talent and generosity were never in short supply. He truly appreciated that about you.
Thank you, Sarah. You were Augie’s compatriot in arms for years and he loved working with you. I truly appreciate your condolences, which help keep me going through this difficult time.
