Born in: Glen Cove, NY
Resided in: Lawrenceville, GA

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Scott Jarvis Luther at his home in Lawrenceville, Georgia, on January 23, 2025, at the age of 71. Scott was a devoted husband, father, teacher, coach, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Debra Luther, and children, Charles Luther, Julianna Luther, and Alexandra Emmons (Tanner), as well as grandchildren, Michelle Luther and Logan Luther. He is also survived by his brothers, Calvin Luther (Mary) and Doug Luther (Brenda).

Scott was born on July 28, 1953, in Glen Cove, New York, to parents Eldon and Maxine Luther. He grew up in Simsbury, Connecticut, and enlisted in the Army for four years after high school, leaving with an honorable discharge. He took advantage of the GI Bill and earned a BS in biochemistry and cell biology/genetics from the University of Minnesota, an MEd from Piedmont College, and an EdS from Lincoln Memorial University.
In his 27-year career teaching physics, chemistry, biology, and anatomy at both Duluth and Stone Mountain High Schools, Scott was known for his entertaining teaching style, fun personality, and dedication to helping students succeed. He had a unique ability to inspire and captivate with his dry wit and sarcasm. He loved coaching wrestling, golf, soccer, and Science Olympiad.

He was a man who had a great sense of humor, loved music and danced just because he was happy, and embraced life’s adventures, especially boating and swimming at the lake, skiing the slopes with his kids, golfing on a beautiful day, and motorcycling on curvy mountain roads with his best friends and brothers.

Scott’s recent battle with Lewy body dementia took him from us long before we were ready to let him go, but his spirit will live on in the cherished memories we have of a life filled with precious moments and the deep love he had for his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, our family suggests donations to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, https://www.lbda.org/donate/ in Scott’s memory.

Forever in our hearts,
The Luther Family
