Tyler Brandon Blythe

It is with a heavy heart we share that Tyler Brandon Blythe passed away on February 14, 2025. He died at his home in Tucker, Georgia, surrounded by his family, after a nine month battle with late stage colon cancer.
Tyler was truly one-of-a-kind. He was a creative, tender, sarcastic, hard working, determined, and passionate man who loved being a father more than anything and was fiercely devoted to his family. He was dedicated to his craft, production sound mixing, and was surely headed for a long and successful career before his life was unfairly cut short because of this awful disease. He loved ice hockey and was convinced every year was “the year” for the Carolina Hurricanes to win the Cup. He loved to tinker and build things, and built several beautiful guitars from scratch and refurbished many others he found at Goodwill. His final build was an electric guitar that is the perfect size for his son Jasper to learn on in a few years.
Tyler was born on May 17, 1985, in Charlotte, North Carolina, the second son of Jim and Judy Blythe. He was a curious, energetic, and talkative child who liked to take things apart to see how they worked and “borrow” his older brother Chris’ toys. (Chris moved into the closet to find solace from his curious brother.) Once his younger brother Austin was born, Tyler quickly became a role model, for better or worse (depending on who you ask).
Eventually finding a passion for sound, he got degrees in sound engineering and film, and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career. He moved to Atlanta in 2015 to take advantage of the booming film industry in the state. He began working as a sound utility for established sound mixers, earning credits on many Marvel films and the Jumanji franchise. He met his wife Laura in 2016 on Tinder and the two were instantly inseparable. They had four years of fun city life and many memorable trips within the US and internationally before becoming parents.
The Covid-19 pandemic and film union strikes caused a slowdown for most in the industry, but it was during this time that Tyler began his most beloved role: father to his son. He was the most wonderful dad, so patient and loving. He especially loved laying with Jasper at bedtime, often telling silly stories and laughing with him until late in the night. Tyler will live on through Jasper and the love he gave him for those four and a half precious years.
Tyler is survived by his parents Jim and Judy, his brothers Chris and Austin, his wife Laura, and his son Jasper.
Instead of a funeral, we are planning a Celebration of Life in his honor on what would have been his 40th birthday, May 17, 2025. We will share details in advance for those who wish to travel to Atlanta for the event, but please save the date.
