Donald “Red” Yarbrough

donald “red” yarbrough

April 9, 1943 ~ February 22, 2025

Born in: Lilburn, Georgia
Resided in: Lawrenceville, Georgia

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Donald “Red” Yarbrough has passed away peacefully in his Lawrenceville home surrounded by his children and sister. After battling with Parkinsons and Kidney disease, he was called home to be with Jesus on February 22, 2025. His years of suffering have subsided, and he will now forever be at peace.

Donald graduated from Lilburn High School in 1960 and went to work for the Atlanta Gas Light Company where he retired 50 years after. He was a Deacon at Oakhill Baptist Church, one of the things of which he was most proud. He also was an active member of Sunrise Baptist Church, which he attended until he was no longer able. He was a dedicated father and would drop everything if any of his kids needed anything. He was honest to a fault, often losing money on a car deal or overpaying a contractor because he did not want to “take advantage” of someone. He was an avid muscle car collector and enjoyed wrenching on cars and old trucks. A little known fact about Donald was that he was recruited by a professional baseball team out of high school as a pitcher.

Donald was a devoted husband and married to Donna Yarbrough till her death in January of 2023 after 55 years of marriage. They will be rejoined once again, forever in the presence of the Lord. Hallelujah!

Donald was preceded in death by his father and mother, Odell and Pauline Yarbrough, his two stepsons, Keith and Kevin Smith and his youngest son Kelly Yarbrough.

He is survived by his sisters Helen Reynolds and Diane McDonald, his three children, Julie Yarbrough, Jon Yarbrough and Jena Scarborough as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren.

“This is the last time we say goodbye; our last farewells are done.
You are in a better place, with your Heavenly Father and his Son.
Your pain and suffering wiped away, a perfect body you now possess,
No more surgeries, no more struggles, no more symptoms that cause you stress.
You now get to hear the angels sing, in all their sweet refrain, While patiently waiting for the rest of us, till we meet again!”

  1. CandleImageSafe in the arms of Jesus Uncle Red, you will always be remembered. I cherish my childhood memories with you.

  2. CandleImageWhen I had moved I saw Uncle Red for the last time at Home Depot. He hugged me for so long. We talked for so long & he asked how my son’s Christian & Gage were doing. I remember he use to make Donald Duck sounds playing with them when they were little. So many found memories. They still remember him doing that to this day. Until we meet again uncle Red, may you rejoice with our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. You are loved and missed dearly.

  3. CandleImageI’m glad you are no longer in pain and in a much better place! I love and will miss you until we are reunited again. Xoxoxo from your first granddaughter!
