Blair was born on September 2, 1930, in Savannah, Georgia, to Hugh G. and Edwena Wells, Sr., and along with her younger siblings, Edwena and Hugh, they grew up in the small town of Guyton, Effingham County, Ga. Guyton was for many years, a main hub for the Central of Georgia Railroad, where the majority of the people of Guyton were employed with the railroad; including their father, Hugh Sr. Upon her graduation from Guyton School, Blair completed her education at Georgia Teachers College, NKA Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. Her career was eventful beginning in the early 1950s as a 2nd grade schoolteacher, to becoming a human resource recruiter for military people transitioning to civilian jobs, then finally to H.R. manager at American Mutual, where she met and married her husband of 26+ years. Together, she and Edward made several cross country trips and especially, to their favorite vacation spot on St Simons Island, Ga. Unfortunately, in 1998, her husband succumbed to the ravages of rheumatoid arthritis and pneumonia. Blair continued to do some traveling with her family and always enjoyed the annual Guyton School reunions. She was avid reader and loved going to the library each month to check out a new stack of books to read. Blair loved to have her family over for home cooked meals and our favorites were her pot roast with the fixings, her chicken salad and butter beans with rice and sliced tomatoes, to name a few.
Blair was loved so very much by everyone and to say she will be missed is an understatement. At her request, a private burial service will be held in April, at Bonaventure Cemetery, in Savannah, Ga. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Wounded Warrior Project or Meals on Wheels.
