It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen “Steve” Lee Dean, lovingly known as “Roofing Man,” who left us on March 22, 2025, at the age of 53. Born on July 15, 1971, in Atlanta, GA, Steve resided in Athens, GA. He attended Central Gwinnett High School and lived his life with a spirit of generosity and kindness.

Steve was a dedicated roofer for Accent Roofing, where he worked for an impressive 36 years. Known for his unwavering work ethic and commitment to his craft, he became a trusted figure in his field. But more than his profession, Steve’s true legacy is found in the love he gave to his family, friends, and anyone lucky enough to know him.

A man of faith, Steve was a proud Christian who lived his life in service to others. He welcomed everyone with open arms and would do anything for those in need. Steve had a variety of passions that brought him joy, including video games, playing the harmonica, singing, traveling, camping, and spending quality time with his family. He was a friend to all, always making those around him feel valued and cherished.

Steve is survived by his loving parents, Rose Mary and Jerry Dean; his sister, Roxanne Irby (Rodney); his brother, Jerry Wayne Dean Jr.; his daughters, Jessica Mayes (Marcus) and Hannah Kvamme (Noah); his son, Christopher Bagwell; his beloved grandchildren, Hayden and Carter Mayes; his nephews, Austin Irby (Shea), Mason Irby, Jeremy Dean (Cassandra), and Justin Dean (Lindsay); and his cherished cat, Bo Bo.

The family invites all who knew Steve to a visitation from 1-2 PM on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Wages and Sons Funeral Home, 1031 Lawrenceville Highway, Lawrenceville, GA 30046. A funeral service will follow at 2 PM, with burial to take place at Gwinnett Memorial Park.

Steve’s infectious smile, selflessness, and unwavering love for his family and friends will forever be remembered. He was truly one of a kind, and he will be missed deeply by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
