Velma Leona Hicks Robinson Ducra

Velma Leona Hicks Ducra of Lawrenceville, GA, 92, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023 surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Della (Mayhue) Hicks; husband, George Ducra; daughter, Phillis Shumate; granddaughter, Kelley Shumate; sister, Emily Maddox. Velma is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Cindy Robinson of Snellville, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Jill Robinson of Gainesville, Georgia; son-in-law, Tony Shumate of Social Circle, Georgia; and stepson, Barry Ducra and his wife, Elena of Eastover, South Carolina; grandchildren, Kim Shumate Fincher and husband Bobby of Social Circle, Georgia; Wendi Ayer and husband Josh of Medfield Massachusetts; Kevin Robinson of Lake Bluff, Illinois; Traci Morgan and husband Greg of Lilburn, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Kacie, McKenzie and Colton Fincher; Campbell and Avery Ayer; Collin, Emily and Ashlyn Robinson; Preston, Hailey, Allison and Nathan Morgan; Ana Durca. Velma was a native of Rockdale County. She lived in Decatur, Stone Mountain and Loganville for most of her adult life. She worked more than 30 years for the DeKalb County Board of Education where she retired at the age of 76. Velma appreciated hard work and a loving
family. She was grateful for her life and those she loved. The service to honor and celebrate the life of Velma H. Ducra will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Wages and Sons Funeral Home, 1040 Main Street, Stone Mountain. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery, Conyers, Rockdale County. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
