April 8, 1937 ~ March 15, 2022

Born in: Anderson County, Tennessee
Resided in: Tucker, Georgia

William (Bill) Alfred Loy, Sr., 84, of Tucker, Georgia passed away peacefully at his home on March 15, 2022 after a courageous battle with leukemia and kidney disease. He was born in Clinton, Tennessee to William Shade and Ethel Loy. As newlyweds, Bill and Betty Duncan Loy moved to Tucker in 1962 and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this June. They have four children (Leanne Porter, Amy (Bill) Mac Kenzie, William (Kerry) A. Loy, Jr. and Carrie (Chris) Downing) and seven grandchildren (Abbi Kate Bomar, Chad Bomar, Lauren Loy, Shade Loy, Parker Downing, Hayden Downing, and Chandler Downing).

Bill attended Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tennessee prior to his employment with Mrs. Kinser’s Home Style Foods, Inc. in Knoxville, Tennessee. After serving in the United States Army, Bill relocated to Georgia where he later started Bill Loy Foods, Inc. and distributed freshly made salads to Atlanta-area restaurants. Bill retired in 2007 after 40 years in the food industry.

Bill’s life was marked by a commitment to his faith in Jesus Christ. He was a founding member of Cornerstone Bible Church under the leadership of Dr. Doug McIntosh, and in recent years was an active member of First Baptist Church of Tucker.

The simplest of pleasures in life brought great joy to Bill such as spending time with his children and grandchildren as well as gardening. He had the mind of an engineer, an incredible work ethic and the ability to repair almost anything. He enjoyed restoring a 1958 Plymouth Fury (a replica of his first car) and his father’s 1954 Chevrolet pick-up truck, both classics received numerous awards at car shows.

Bill is survived by his three sisters, Audrey Leitten of Winter Park, Florida, Judy Foster of Heiskell, Tennessee and Kay Price of Clinton, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his father, William Shade Loy, mother, Ethel Loy and sister, Myrna Williams.

A Celebration of Life will be held on what would have been Bill’s 85th birthday on Friday, April 8 at First Baptist Church of Tucker. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 at the church followed by the service at 2:00.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to:

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Bill will sincerely be missed by the community and neighborhood. He was the first person to welcome Phill and I as “the new neighbors down the street” 20 years ago. He loved working in his yard and when I’d walk or drive by I’d stop and say hi! followed by a joke. Bill would always “one up” me and we’d both enjoy a good laugh.

God bless Bill’s family during these trying times. You are in our hearts and in our prayers.

    Vanessa and Phill Richardson

  2. Even brief friendships may leave you with a touch of grace that comes with memories of a ready smile and personal warmth. Bill was the personification of the gentleman whose Christian character was evident in every area of his life. His humor and gentleness were gifts that he readily shared. We count ourselves fortunate to have known him and we send prayers for peace and comfort to Betty and family. We will always remember him with a smile.

    With sympathy and love,

    Patsy and Richard Storla
